The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts includes the Wortham Theater, a 566-seat proscenium stage, and the Quintero Theatre, a 100-seat black box. A $4 million renovation by Austin-based architectural firm Lake l Flato was completed in 2005. This construction project enhanced the lobby space of the existing School of Theatre & Dance, added two new rehearsal spaces, and provided a second story office suite for the Mitchell Center.

The Lyndall Finley Wortham Theater was built in 1977. It features a trapped floor, a counterweight fly system and ample wing space that joins a shop area large enough to accommodate several production sets. In 2003 the lobby was refurbished with new seating and carpeting. Beginning in summer of 2008 the stage lighting and sound systems will be upgraded with state of the art equipment and control systems.

The Jose Quintero Lab Theatre is the intimate 100-seat black box theater built in 1977. Beginning in summer of 2008 it will undergo a large-scale renovation, which will include a state-of-the-art lighting system and the addition of approximately 100 seats.

The School of Theatre & Dance costume shop is a fully functioning design and construction facility. Our costume shop features an extensive collection of wardrobe stock from all time periods. Visit the Costume Shop page for information on renting costumes for your school production! Design 1
