MFA for Actors, Directors, and Designers
In addition to meeting the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences graduate admission requirements, prospective students must undergo assessment by the senior faculty member in their area. Actors will audition with Mr. Young, scenic and lighting designers will interview and present portfolios to Mr. Rigdon, costume designers will interview and present portfolios to Ms. Verheyen and MA candidates will interview with Dr. Shimko. Directors should submit a portfolio to Mr. Young. Based on the faculty’s assessment of the portfolio, selected candidates will be invited to interview for the 2 Directing spots.

MA in Theatre - for Scholars
Individuals applying for the M.A. program with thesis should have an undergraduate degree in theatre or have completed at least 24 semester hours in theatre at the undergraduate or post-baccalaureate level with a grade point average of at least 3.00 (A = 4.00). All M.A. program applicants must provide the following:
- A Statement of Purpose describing the applicant’s educational and theatrical background as well as his or her reasons for wanting to pursue this particular degree.
- Official transcripts from the applicant’s undergraduate institution(s).
- Three letters of recommendation from professors or professional colleagues familiar with the applicant’s work.
- Official GRE scores.
- A writing sample consisting of 10-20 pages of the applicant’s best scholarly writing.
The due date for applications is April 1. Applications should be mailed to:

MA in Theatre - for Theatre Educators

Sixteen theatre educators will be accepted this summer to begin their three year path toward a Master’s Degree in Theatre.
Theatre educators applying for the M.A program without thesis should send:
- 1. A Statement of Purpose describing the applicant’s educational and theatrical background as well as his or her reasons for wanting to pursue the MA Theatre Educator Summer Degree Plan (not to exceed two pages in length, double spaced)
2. Three letters of recommendation from one from the applicant’s current administrator and two additional professional colleagues familiar with the applicant’s work.
3. A mini-portfolio containing pictures from a production (three photo minimum) and a one-two page reflection on the applicants involvement, approach and process involved in mounting the production. Include difficulties and how they were overcome and what was learned by the students and the applicant during the production process.
- OR a 10-15 minute video submission (DVD or VHS format) of the applicant working with students in a teaching or directing situation, with a two page explanation of the lesson or directorial approach.

- 4. Official transcripts from the applicant’s undergraduate institution(s).
- 5. Resume (not exceeding two pages).
6. Copy of Theatre Teaching Certificate from State of Residence.
7. Official GRE scores or a letter of intent stating that they plan to take the GRE. - 8. Proof of application to UH Central Campus.
The due date for applications is Monday, February 2, 2009. Please send all application materials together in one packet to:

Students are not required to stay on campus, but housing is available at Cullen Oaks Apartments. The cost is $1000 for the entire summer term.
