MA in Theatre

For Theatre Educators


This Summer Master of Arts program is an affordable and convenient path for busy theatre arts educators to accomplish an Master of Arts in three short summer sessions . Sixteen theatre educators will be accepted this summer to begin their three year path toward a Master’s Degree in Theatre.

Classes will begin Monday June 29h, 2009 and will run Monday through Thursday, 9am-9pm through Thursday July 30, 2009. Students will have long weekends free to study and to explore the exciting Arts Community that Houston has to offer. The last 5 days of class will be spent off campus taking a class designed for theatre educators and seeing productions.

Coursework in the Summer Master of Arts is developed keeping in mind that you want to further develop your theatre programs and your classes. The faculty is eager for the opportunity to teach working professional theatre educators!

Besides the dedicated faculty, the many resources and amenities that The University of Houston Central Campus has to offer will be at your disposal as a University of Houston Graduate Student.

Tuition per summer term: approx. $5500 including travel.
Housing on campus apartment: $1000

For Scholars


The M.A. program with a thesis is recommended for students with a strong interest in the scholarly and academic aspects of theatre. This M.A. degree is made up of 36 credit hours. The following courses are required for M.A. students:

In addition, most M.A. students are expected to complete six credit hours of a thesis project. The other eighteen credit hours are made up of graduate-level elective courses taken within the School of Theatre & Dance and up to nine graduate-level credit hours taken in other departments.
