Emily Dickinson’s poetry gets a spell-bounding interpretation in this striking new multimedia production that reunites renowned composer Michael Gordon (co-founder, Bang on a Can) with New York City’s Ridge Theater. Comprised entirely of text written by Dickinson and set to Gordon’s powerful music, Lightning lives on the borders of music, theater, and dance, set against an environment of ethereal film projections.
Lightning at our feet was commissioned by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at the University of Houston, and was co-commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the 2008 Next Wave Festival.
Ridge Theater is “hallucinatory, oddly beautiful, and disturbing” – The Chicago Tribune
Ridge Theater and Michael Gordon’s Decasia is “the most widely acclaimed American avant-garde film of the fin-de-siècle.” – The Village Voice
